The city of Skopje today started the implementation of the capital project for the construction of a mega park in the municipality of Gjorce Petrov – a new green area in the city that will cover more than 30,000 square meters. The beginning of the activities for the construction of this new park was marked by the mayor Danela Arsovska, the mayor of the Municipality of Gjorce Petrov, Aleksandar Stojkovski, the director of the PE “Parks and Greenery”, Angele Sotirovski and the director of the PE “Streets and Roads”, Boris Nastov.
– Part of the priority capital projects for Skopje residents according to the program are five new mega parks in Skopje. Therefore, today, in the municipality of Gjorce Petrov, we are marking the start of the construction of the first mega park that we are implementing in Skopje. As a person who has fought cancer, as someone who has lost loved ones to this insidious disease, I believe that there are no more important and priority goals than to contribute in every possible way to Skopje a city in which we provide a significantly better quality of life. In Skopje, we are starting something that has never been done before, 5 new mega parks that will contribute to the protection and improvement of the environment in the long term – said Arsovska.
In a place that was a landfill of huge proportions of over 50,000 square meters, the teams of the City of Skopje managed to completely clean it to create the new park area. The work activities and horticultural arrangement of the mega park envisage four stages of execution, and the park is planned to have three parts with a total area of over 30,000 square meters. The public enterprises “Streets and Roads” and “Parks and Greenery” are already carrying out the first phase of this new mega park, i.e. preparatory leveling of the surface, digging and full marking are being carried out in accordance with the project for the park area. In this phase, the pedestrian and bicycle paths and the space for other contents are laid out, and the necessary underground installations are also installed. It is planned to raise green areas, install an irrigation system, plant over 2,200 trees of a dozen different species, as well as additional flower seedlings suitable for ennobling and greening the parking area.
In the final phase, the installation of the urban equipment and the complete arrangement of the space with fountains, benches, supporting elements, waste receptacles, parking for bicycles, as well as adequate lighting is foreseen. The mega park in each of the three parts has internal walking paths and additional access paths. The construction of a children’s playground, a playground for pets, and a fitness zone, with the appropriate equipment, is planned, as well as the construction of a parking lot for visitors.
– In Skopje, given the pollution situation which is particularly alarming in the winter months, new green areas are needed, so I strongly advocate that the program priorities be realized. This mega park with its contents represents a new space in the city for recreation, and quality spending of free time, and it will contribute to the improvement of environmental conditions, as a benefit for all residents of this town and for all visitors in general. The total value of the project is MKD 68,500,000 – explained Mayor Arsovska.

This is one of the main promises by major Arsovska in her prorgamme and we are monitoring this very carefully.
